Burlington Vermont Local Blues Music Scene

Since Christmas night, I have been making a small effort to enjoy and celebrate the local Blues music scene here in the Burlington, Vermont area.

If you listen to my show, you know how strongly I support local live music. I just don't "talk the talk", I "walk the walk" the best I can, when I can.

We are fortunately to have some really great local live music which requires only that you show up. yes, it's free. No cover charges and no drink minimums. It just doesn't get better than that.

Nectar's has been hosting a number of local & regional Blues acts for years. Currently, on Tuesday nights, Nectar's hosts Bluesday featuring the Nerbak brothers. Ladies and Gentlement, this is a great regular Blues jam with many great local musicians sitting in and getting down. I can't wait to go to more Bluesday jams. Of course, check Nectar's schedule for other Blues acts.

Parima's has providing a venue for local jazz and related genres. It is a wonderful "Jazz Bar". The musicians say it's like playing in a living room. The space is warm and inviting. The music is top shelf. I have heard Madera, Matt Wright Group and attended James O'Halloran's "The Nashville Session" CD release party there. Some wonderful pictures were taken by Bob Grego and posted on the web which gives you a sense of the atmosphere. While it is not Blues, it is still great music. Oh...the Thai food is excellent.

Our venerable Lincoln Inn in Essex Junction is also supporting the local music scene with lots of live music. The newly redone bar and music room provide plenty of sitting and an intimate atmosphere for up-close and personal Blues. So far, I have seen Jenni Johnson and The Eames Brothers. Both perfect acts for the venue. Unfortunately, my in-laws were in town and I couldn't make it down the street to hear The Nobby Reed Project, a regular on my playlist. Fortunately, I have seen Nobby live and he and his crew put on a great show. All three acts, Jenni Johnson & Friends (she is great, oh yeah...smooth) , The Eames Brothers (excellent solid Blues roots), and The Nobby Reed Project are perfect acts for Lincoln Inn's regular Thursday evening Blues Night. In addition, the Lincoln Inn has been hosting a Folk Music night (Tuesday) and some excellent cover bands, like Dark Horse, on Friday and Saturday.

Oh...did I forget to mention? All of these shows are free. All we have to do to support local live Blues music is show up. What could be simpler? Buy a couple of beverages, sit down and enjoy the show.

Cheers,

OneChord
